Hyrynsalmi has established itself as a municipality for renewable energy production and offers excellent conditions for new investments. Wind power plants in Hyrynsalmi

Kivivaara-Peuravaara Wind Power Plant
Metsähallitus implemented a wind power project in the Kivivaara–Peuravaara area, located on the border of the municipalities of Hyrynsalmi and Suomussalmi, between 2014 and 2017. The wind farm consists of 30 turbines.

Illevaara Wind Power Plant
The wind power plant with five turbines, implemented by Abo Energy at Ilvevaara, began electricity production in 2023
Lumivaara (Prokon)
Prokon Wind Energy Finland Ltd. established a wind farm with nine turbines in Hyrynsalmi, on the eastern slope of Lumivaara, in the Määtänkulju area.
Lumivaara (Energiequelle)
The wind farm established by Energiequellen has been completed and put into operation in late 2023. The project area features eight wind turbines of the Nordex N163 5.7 MW model.
